The first step towards learning search engine optimization, or SEO, is to understand how search engines work. You have to understand how they work before you can optimize your web site. There are two main components in search engines:
- The Crawler
- The Algorithm
The Crawler
The crawler is also known as a spider or a robot. What it does is it gathers information about a web site. The crawler crawls through web pages and follows links. This means that it reads the HTML on a specific page and moves on to another page when it comes across a link that leads to another web page. While the crawler is navigating through billions of web pages on the internet, it also gathers information about the pages and adds them to a database. To sum it up, search engine crawlers simply find web pages, read them, and index them.
These crawlers sometimes run into technical issues when following links, and that is where search engine optimization comes in. It is important to design your web page to make it easy for the robots to navigate through them and gather the information they need.
The Algorithm
The algorithm is a formula each search engine uses to rank the web site based on relevancy. These algorithms determine the rankings for specific keywords or phrases, which is what SEO is all about. There are many factors that affect the way your web site is ranked, but determining relevancy is the most important thing to remember. While there are hundreds of ways to improve your ranking, the general consensus is that these two things make the biggest impact to your rankings:
- On Page SEO – What you say on your page
- Off Page SEO – What others say about your page
The whole purpose of Search Engine Optimization is to help your clients’ web site get discovered by their target audience. By understanding the algorithms used by search engines and how crawlers work, you will be able to help improve your page rank. As a result, more people will be able find your site which translates into increased sales, brand awareness, or whatever it is you are trying to achieve.

Hey, I can’t view your site properly within Opera, I actually hope you look into fixing this.
A number of genuinely beneficial knowledge here. I was not sure whether you are aware or not but it does look like your footer is actually overlapping somewhat. Must be a specific program around the code not really quite correct. In either case, excellent weblog you have here and you definitely are not able to overcom wordpress for a Cms program.
Thanks for the post
